Regenerating a Memory
I did a painting to form a memory of the place I lived. The slower pace of looking, painting, and looking again at the same scene over and over and over, over two months, gave me space to reflect on the realities I confronted living there each day. Realities like only bedstuy can deliver - a rich dose of humanity indeed.
The park depicted in this image is one directly across from my studio, and has lots of characters - and character - drawn from years of living in that same space. Notably, it’s the commons - a green space - that’s very locals only. You don’t see tourists here - only NY’s finest.
